The Community at CHN

Where we live and work

Mother Foundress EstherThe life of the Community is centred on our Community House at Cheltenham, a south-eastern bay-side suburb of Melbourne. Built in the 1930s, the House is set in extensive grounds. It includes a Chapel, refectory, library and guest accommodation, as well as offices and living space for the Sisters.  Sr Carol and Archbishop Freier

There are also some Sisters living and ministering in Footscray, Clayton and Brighton. The Leader of the Community is elected every three years by vote of all professed Sisters. The current Leader is Sister Carol, who was re-elected in April 2014 for a second term of office.

What we do

Sisters at CHNToday, CHN Sisters continue important ministries of pastoral care and chaplaincy. We seek to provide personal support for people experiencing crisis. We engage in ministries of hospitality and spiritual ministries of many kinds. Three CHN Sisters are ordained priests and one continues to participate in parish duties. Others visit and participate in a variety of parish groups and are involved as pastoral visitors in hospitals. Others lead quiet days and retreats, and offer spiritual companioning. We run a small Retreat and Spirituality Centre and host a Gathering Space for day groups.

Our creative gifts are encouraged and in the past, beautiful vestments were made and embroidered. At the Community House there are a range of items showing the work of the Sisters.
